When Simon was about four months old, I became fed up with nursing him in public. I always used a blanket, but he was so active he would sometimes pull the blanket right off of me. It was then that I began hunting around for another alternative. I had seen nursing covers (like the kind I make) with boning and an adjustable strap, but I wasn't willing to pay 30-40 dollars for them.
To make a long story short, I decided to make one myself. Over time I've become more creative with the styles and I've learned some techniques that I believe make my nursing covers better than some. I always add a pocket that is big enough for nursing pads or any kind of small item you might want to put in there. I also sew lining into the straps, so they become stiffer and therefore aren't slipping out of their rings. In addition, I add some simple embellishment to make each nursing cover unique and special.
I am currently asking 20-25 dollars for my nursing covers. The are made with boning in the front so you can see your baby and protect your modesty at the same time. They come with adjustable straps threaded through D-rings. The fabric is a lightweight calico, so your little bundle of joy won't get so warm while nursing. Nursing covers are machine washable in cold water on a gentle cycle. I strongly recommend drying them either flat, or on a rack.
If you're interested in having me make a nursing cover for you, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm happy to do it for you. We can discuss colors and any special add-ons you might want, to make your nursing cover unique. Once fabric is selected I can finish fairly quickly and have them ready for you within a few days.
